Long ago, when the world was a boundless tapestry of mystery and wonder, before Mami Wata became the goddess of water, fertility, and riches, there was Rukia. She was the first, the primordial Mami Wata, born of the deep abyss where the ocean kisses the sky. Rukia's beauty was like the dawn rising from the ocean waves - ethereal and enchanting. Her hair, braided with the tendrils of seaweed, cascaded like the current, and her eyes reflected the secret depths of the ocean. She ruled the waters with grace and power, carrying the legacy of balance between the ocean and the land.
But Rukia's reign was not without its perils. In those days, the world was filled with magical creatures and ancient forces, both wondrous and terrifying. One such force was the fearsome spirit known as Denga, an ancient deity of destruction and chaos, envious of the peace that the waters provided. Denga desired to plunge the world into turmoil, to turn the calm of the oceans into a storm of eternal rage. But Rukia, wise and strong, kept Denga's power at bay with her indomitable spirit.

In the stillness of the lake, Gbemisola’s powerful stance commands attention. Her reflection in the water matches her poised expression, creating a serene and strong presence amidst nature.
One fateful day, the trickster god Shaga approached Rukia with an offer.
"Mistress of the Waters, O Magnificent Rukia," Shaga said with a sly grin, "the chaos of the world grows ever nearer. Even your waters, vast and mysterious, may soon be consumed by the hunger of Denga. But there exists a relic, an artifact older than time itself - the Shield of Otu. It is said to be indestructible, a weapon that not even the gods can break."
Rukia, though skeptical of the trickster's motives, listened intently. The Shield of Otu was no ordinary weapon. It was whispered in old tales that the shield could repel all harm, no matter the strength or power of the assault. It was said to have been forged by the primordial smith, Otu, in the heart of a dying star. Once lost to the world, it was rumored to be hidden deep within the labyrinth of the ocean's darkest trench, guarded by ancient creatures of unfathomable power.
"The shield could protect my domain from Denga's wrath," Rukia mused, intrigued. But she knew Shaga's offers always came at a cost. "And what is it you desire in return?"
"Only a small thing, great Rukia," Shaga chuckled. "When you find the shield, grant me but one request, a favor of my choosing."
Rukia knew better than to trust Shaga, but the promise of the indestructible shield was too tempting to resist. She agreed to the trickster's terms, and thus began her quest to find the Shield of Otu.
Rukia called forth the mightiest of her sea creatures, the majestic Leviathan, to carry her to the depths where the shield was hidden. The journey was perilous, for the deep waters were home to creatures as old as the earth itself, some long forgotten by even the gods. The deeper they dove, the darker the waters grew, and the more treacherous the journey became.
They passed the Forest of Kelp, where the trees of the sea whispered forgotten secrets, and crossed the Plains of the Abyssal Worm, a creature so large that its coils spanned across miles of ocean floor. But Rukia was unafraid, for she was the Mother of Waters, and no beast could challenge her might.
At last, they arrived at the entrance to the trench, a maw of darkness that seemed to swallow the very light from the ocean. The trench was guarded by Anaki, the Serpent of the Abyss, a creature as old as the world itself. Anaki had skin like obsidian, eyes like molten gold, and a hiss that could silence the waves.
"What brings you to my domain, Mami Wata?" Anaki hissed, coiling its massive body around the trench's entrance.

Amidst the serene beauty of a snow-covered landscape, she shines brightly in her yellow dress, creating a striking contrast with the white snow and green evergreens around her.
"I seek the Shield of Otu," Rukia declared boldly. "It is said to lie within this abyss, and I will claim it."
Anaki laughed, a sound that echoed through the water like a tremor. "Many have sought the shield, but none have returned. The shield is bound by the spirits of the deep, and only those willing to sacrifice can retrieve it."
Rukia was undeterred. She dove into the trench, with Leviathan close behind. As they descended, they encountered the spirits Anaki had warned about - ghostly beings made of shadows and salt, remnants of long-lost sailors and forgotten gods. They whispered temptations into Rukia's ear, offering her riches, power, and immortality in exchange for abandoning her quest. But Rukia, with her heart as calm as the sea on a still night, pressed forward, ignoring their deceitful promises.
At the bottom of the trench, Rukia found it - a massive, radiant shield glowing with a light that defied the oppressive darkness around it. The Shield of Otu was magnificent, its surface etched with ancient runes that hummed with untold power. But as she reached for it, the spirits of the deep converged upon her, their cold fingers reaching for her soul.
Rukia knew then what Anaki had meant - retrieving the shield required a sacrifice. To claim the shield, Rukia would have to give up her immortality, surrender her divine power to the spirits of the abyss. She hesitated, for to lose her immortality would mean becoming mortal, vulnerable to the world's cruelties.
But Rukia thought of her people, of the oceans she ruled, and the balance she had maintained for so long. If Denga's chaos were to consume the waters, all would be lost. With a deep breath, she made her choice. She released her divine essence, allowing the spirits to drain her immortal power, and as they did, she grabbed the Shield of Otu, feeling its indestructible strength pulse through her veins.
Weak but victorious, Rukia emerged from the trench, shield in hand. She had sacrificed her immortality to protect her domain, but the ocean, the land, and the skies would be safe from Denga's wrath.
When she returned to Shaga, the trickster god smiled. "Ah, you have succeeded, great Rukia. But do not forget our deal. My favor…"
Rukia, though mortal now, stood tall. "What is it you seek?"
Shaga's grin grew wider. "I ask only that you dance upon the waves one last time."

Amidst towering trees and a sense of enchantment, she stands strong with her sword, the dragon beside her in silent guardianship.
Amused, Rukia agreed. With the Shield of Otu slung over her back, she danced upon the ocean's surface, her feet barely grazing the water as the sea sang beneath her. The sight of Rukia, even as a mortal, was so magnificent that Shaga could do nothing but laugh with delight.
And so, the legend of Rukia lived on. Though no longer immortal, she remained the protector of the seas, her sacrifice forever woven into the waters she loved. The Shield of Otu, indestructible and eternal, stood as a testament to her bravery, guarding the world from chaos.
Thus, Rukia became more than just the old Mami Wata; she became a symbol of sacrifice, strength, and love - a legacy that would endure for all time.
