Long time ago, in the dim-lit caverns of Undermire, deep below the surface of the earth, there resided a Beholder named Glorvax. Known as Glorvax the Magnificent among his kind, he possessed the power to observe and obliterate his foes with a mere glance. His many eyes - each one capable of casting a different, dreadful spell - had earned him a reputation of fear. Yet, despite his formidable powers, Glorvax was the unhappiest Beholder in all the realms.
His cavern was littered with trophies of past conquests: a collection of rusted swords, skulls of adventurers long gone, and an assortment of magical artifacts that sparkled just out of reach of his longing eyestalks. But what truly pained Glorvax was not the absence of treasure or the scarcity of foes; it was the ignoble title bestowed upon him by the other denizens of Undermire: "Glorvax the One-Eyed Wonder."

The menacing presence of the Looming Beholder amplifies the tension in the dark woods, as foreboding shapes intertwine, inspiring feelings of both dread and curiosity, urging viewers to confront the shadows and uncover hidden mysteries.
The name stung like a poisoned dart, and as Glorvax glowered in his dark chamber, he concocted a plan for revenge against his peers. If he could rid himself of the mocking moniker, he would be revered once more. Thus, he set out to transform himself into the most powerful being in all the Undermire - an undead Beholder, or as he fancifully dubbed it, the Beholder Lich.
Glorvax began his preparations by combing through the old tomes of necromancy he had collected over the ages. He found that the process required three essential ingredients: the heart of a treacherous wizard, the laughter of a child, and the tears of a dragon.
"Simple enough!" Glorvax muttered, his eyestalks swirling with excitement. "I shall start with the wizard!"
The nearest wizard, a cantankerous gnome named Babblespindle, was notoriously known for his trickery. Glorvax cast his gaze across the caverns until he found Babblespindle asleep in a pile of spellbooks, snoring like a bear with a cold. With a flick of his central eye, Glorvax unleashed a beam of anti-magic that sent the gnome tumbling into wakefulness.
"Who dares disturb my slumber?" Babblespindle shouted, quickly waving his wand to conjure a spell. But before he could finish, Glorvax blasted him with a disintegration ray, reducing the wizard to a pile of dust, along with a well-worn spellbook entitled "Foolproof Tricks for Dummies."
With one ingredient secured, Glorvax cackled maniacally. Next, he set out to capture the laughter of a child.
Deep within the caverns, he discovered a clan of mischievous pixies who had been celebrating their own miniature festival. Glorvax, in his grand Beholder fashion, floated down and announced, "I demand your most uproarious laughter!"
The pixies, taken aback by the sudden appearance of the menacing eye tyrant, burst into giggles instead. They began dancing around Glorvax, tossing petals in the air and playing tricks on him. Infuriated but amused, Glorvax found himself involuntarily chuckling as they teased his eyestalks. With laughter echoing in his mind, he snatched up a few captured giggles and stored them in a crystal vial, which sparkled like a star.
Finally, Glorvax needed the tears of a dragon. He set his sights on a nearby cave where a dragon named Saldaroth was rumored to hoard a treasure trove large enough to make even the greediest adventurer weep. Glorvax planned to steal Saldaroth's treasure and use it to provoke the dragon's wrath, thereby forcing him to cry.

In an enchanting yet foreboding landscape, the Beholder Lich stands as a towering figure against the night sky, inviting brave souls to venture closer, hinting at the secrets and adventures that lie ahead.
Upon entering Saldaroth's lair, Glorvax shouted, "Dragon! Your hoard belongs to me!" The dragon, a hulking beast with scales as tough as iron, glared down at the floating Beholder, amusement dancing in his eyes.
"Really? You think you can take my treasure? How quaint!" Saldaroth chuckled.
Glorvax's eye glared with fury. "You'll rue the day you mocked me!"
With a quick spell, he conjured illusions of treasure beyond imagination. Saldaroth, entranced, quickly became entrapped in a game of cat and mouse, chasing the mirages that danced before him. But as Glorvax prepared to ambush, the dragon stopped and let out a booming laugh. "Is that the best you've got? You're truly a one-eyed wonder!"
Glorvax's frustration boiled over, and in a fit of rage, he unleashed every spell at his disposal. But Saldaroth simply waved his claw, dispelling the magic effortlessly. Finally, Glorvax, exhausted and defeated, admitted defeat and retreated.
With no dragon tears to collect, Glorvax floated back to his cavern, feeling hopeless. But then he had an idea! What if he couldn't make the dragon cry, but he could make all the other creatures of Undermire laugh at his newfound power?
Determined, Glorvax returned to the depths of Undermire and began spreading tales of his legendary transformation into a Beholder Lich. He exaggerated his feats, claiming that he had bested wizards and dragons alike.
At first, the creatures were skeptical. But when they began to hear about the terrifying deeds of the "Beholder Lich," they started to believe. Glorvax's fame began to grow, and soon, all the creatures of Undermire flocked to him for guidance and protection, desperate for a glimpse of the new legend.

Embark on an adventure through the forest, where the gigantic green Eye of Nightmares breaks the tranquil stillness, its luminous gaze piercing through the foliage, awakening the magic and mystery within the woods.
With each encounter, Glorvax found himself surrounded by admirers, who laughed at his exaggerated tales and hailed him as a true ruler. "Long live Glorvax, the Beholder Lich!" they cheered.
And so, as Glorvax basked in his newfound glory, he realized that the laughter of his peers was just as sweet as the revenge he had originally sought. No longer was he "Glorvax the One-Eyed Wonder." Instead, he had become the legend he had always dreamed of being: the Beholder Lich, feared and revered, with a sense of humor to match.
And from that day forward, whenever anyone spoke of Glorvax, they laughed and said, "Only a Beholder would have the audacity to call himself a Lich, let alone succeed in bringing joy to such a gloomy place!".
