Aghaonid
What kind of animal is Aghaonid?
Aghaonid is not an animal, but a family of insects.
They are a group of small wasps that belong to the superfamily Chalcidoidea.
These insects are also known as fig wasps, because they have a mutualistic relationship with fig trees.
Fig wasps pollinate the fig flowers inside the fig fruit, and in return, they use the fig as a nursery for their offspring.
There are about 640 species of fig wasps, and each species is usually associated with one or a few species of figs.
Fig wasps have a complex life cycle that involves several generations and different types of offspring.
Some offspring are wingless and stay inside the fig, while others are winged and disperse to find new figs.
They are important for the ecology and evolution of fig trees, as well as for the animals that feed on figs, such as birds and monkeys.
Fig wasps are also studied for their remarkable adaptations, such as their ability to navigate inside the fig, their specialized mouthparts, and their genetic diversity.
