What kind of animal is Astyanax?
Astyanax is a genus of freshwater fish in the family Characidae of the order Characiformes.
Some of these fish, like many of their relatives, are kept as aquarium pets and known collectively as tetras.
One of the most famous species of Astyanax is the Mexican tetra (Astyanax mexicanus), also known as the blind cave fish, because it has lost its eyes and pigment in some cave populations.
