Basilisk

The basilisk is a fearsome beast
That kills with just a glance
Its venom burns and scorch the earth
No creature stands a chance

But in its heart there is a longing
For a mate to share its life
A gentle soul who understands
Its loneliness and strife

It wears a crown upon its head
A sign of royalty
But all it wants is someone who
Can see beyond its cruelty

It searches for a weasel fair
The only one immune
To its deadly gaze and poison breath
The only one to swoon

But weasels are not fond of snakes
They shun them with disdain
They do not care for basilisks
They cause them only pain

And so the basilisk remains
Alone and sad and bitter
It cries out for a love that's true
But no one hears its twitter

The basilisk is a tragic beast
That kills with just a glance
Its heart is full of unrequited love
No creature stands a chance
