Are Magi the same as Kings?

No, Magi are not the same as Kings.
Magi is a term that refers to a group of people who practiced astrology, magic, and other occult sciences in ancient times.
Kings are rulers of a territory or a people who have political and military authority.
Magi and Kings are different in their social status, profession, and religious beliefs.

According to the Gospel of Matthew, the only biblical source that mentions the Magi, they came from the east to worship the child who was born king of the Jews.
They followed a star that led them to Bethlehem, where they found Jesus with his mother Mary.
They offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and then returned to their own country by another way.
Matthew does not specify the number, names, or origin of the Magi, nor does he call them kings.

However, later Christian tradition and legend expanded the story of the Magi and gave them various identities and attributes.
Some sources claimed that they were three in number, based on the three gifts they brought.
Others assigned them names, such as Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar, and described them as representatives of different regions and races.
Some also associated them with kingship, either by interpreting the Old Testament prophecies of kings bringing gifts to the Messiah, or by claiming that they were converted to Christianity and later became kings of their lands.

Therefore, the Magi and the Kings are not the same, but they have been conflated and confused in some Christian traditions and artistic representations.
The Magi were originally astrologers who sought the newborn king of the Jews, while the Kings were later inventions who symbolized the universal recognition and homage of Jesus as the Son of God.
