Adeopapposaurus
What kind of animal is Adeopapposaurus?
Adeopapposaurus was a type of dinosaur that belonged to the group of sauropodomorphs, which were long-necked herbivores that eventually gave rise to the giant sauropods.
They lived in the Early Jurassic period, about 200 to 183 million years ago, in what is now Argentina.
It was similar to Massospondylus, another sauropodomorph, but had a longer neck and a beak-like structure at the tip of its jaws.
Adeopapposaurus was about 3 meters long and weighed about 60 kilograms.
It was probably a bipedal or facultative quadrupedal animal, meaning that it could walk on two or four legs depending on the situation.
Adeopapposaurus was first described in 2009 by Ricardo N.
MartÃnez, who named it after the Mogna locality where the fossils were found.
Four partial skeletons with two partial skulls are known of this dinosaur.
It is classified as a member of the family Massospondylidae, which includes other early sauropodomorphs that had relatively small heads, slender bodies, and long tails.
Adeopapposaurus and its relatives are important for understanding the evolution of the sauropod dinosaurs, which were the largest land animals ever to exist.
