Prussian blue is a dark blue pigment that is artificially made by oxidation of ferrous ferrocyanide salts.
It has the chemical formula Fe III 4 [Fe II (CN) 6] 3.
It is one of the first pigments made synthetically and was accidentally found in 1704 by two chemists in Berlin.

It is also known as Berlin blue, Brandenburg blue or, in painting, Parisian or Paris blue.
The dark blue uniforms of the Prussian army were dyed this color.
In a RGB color space, Prussian blue has the hexadecimal code #003153 and is composed of 0% red, 19.2% green and 32.5% blue.
The exact hue depends on the method of preparation, which dictates the particle size.

Funny stories about the 'Prussian blue'

The Prussian Blue Revolution

Far away, in the bustling city of Chromapolis, where colors ruled the streets and creativity flowed like the river, lived an eccentric inventor named Pier Westwood. Pier was known for his wild ideas and even wilder hair, which seemed to change color with his mood. His latest obsession was a color that had been long forgotten in the annals of history: Prussian blue.

Pier had always been fascinated by the deep, rich hue of Prussian blue. It was a color that spoke of mystery, depth, and elegance. He believed it had the power to revolutionize design, and he was determined to prove it. However, Pier was not just any inventor; he was a dreamer with a penchant for the dramatic.

One sunny morning, Pier received a delivery from Betsey Hawk, the city's most reliable delivery worker. Betsey was known for her punctuality and her ability to navigate the chaotic streets of Chromapolis with ease. She had a keen eye for detail and a knack for solving problems on the fly.

"Good morning, Pier!" Betsey greeted cheerfully as she handed him a package. "What's the latest invention you're working on?"

Pier's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Ah, Betsey, you won't believe it! I've discovered the secret to using Prussian blue in a way that will change the world of design forever!"

Betsey raised an eyebrow. "Prussian blue? Isn't that the color they used in old paintings and uniforms?"

"Exactly!" Pier exclaimed. "But it's so much more than that. I've found a way to incorporate it into modern design, making it the centerpiece of everything from fashion to architecture."

Betsey was intrigued. "How do you plan to do that?"

Pier led her into his workshop, a chaotic space filled with sketches, prototypes, and jars of paint. In the center of the room stood a large canvas covered in a mesmerizing shade of Prussian blue. "This," Pier said, gesturing to the canvas, "is just the beginning. Imagine buildings painted in this color, clothes dyed with it, and even furniture designed around it. It's a color that evokes emotion and sophistication."

Betsey nodded thoughtfully. "It does have a certain allure. But how will you convince people to embrace it?"

Pier grinned. "That's where you come in, my dear Betsey. I need your help to spread the word. You're the best delivery worker in the city, and you know everyone. If you can help me get my designs into the hands of the right people, we can start a Prussian blue revolution!"

Betsey was flattered by Pier's confidence in her. "Alright, Pier, I'm in. Let's show the world what Prussian blue can do!"

Over the next few weeks, Betsey and Pier worked tirelessly. Betsey delivered samples of Pier's designs to fashion houses, interior designers, and architects. She spoke passionately about the beauty and versatility of Prussian blue, and soon, word began to spread.

One day, Betsey delivered a package to a renowned fashion designer named Isabella Marquez. Isabella was known for her bold and innovative designs, and she was immediately captivated by the rich hue of Prussian blue. "This color is magnificent," she said. "I must use it in my next collection."

Isabella's endorsement was the breakthrough Pier and Betsey needed. Soon, Prussian blue was everywhere. It adorned the walls of trendy cafes, the fabrics of high-end fashion, and the facades of modern buildings. Chromapolis was transformed, and the city was abuzz with excitement.

Pier and Betsey's collaboration had paid off. The Prussian blue revolution was in full swing, and the city was more vibrant and beautiful than ever. Pier's dream had become a reality, and Betsey's hard work had made it possible.

As they stood together, admiring the transformed cityscape, Pier turned to Betsey and said, "We did it, Betsey. We brought Prussian blue back to life."

Betsey smiled. "Yes, we did. And who knows what other colors and ideas we'll bring to the world next?"

And so, in the city of Chromapolis, the Prussian blue revolution became a symbol of creativity, collaboration, and the power of a single color to change the world.
