Phlox

Phlox is a type of flower that comes in many colors.

It can be pink, purple, blue, red or white,
Or even a mix of hues that look quite bright.
Some phlox are tall and some are low,
Some bloom in spring and some in summer's glow.

Phlox are lovely flowers that can fill a garden bed
But they also have a secret that they like to keep well-hedged
They are very fond of gossip and they chatter all the time
About the other plants and critters and the latest garden crimes

One day a phlox was talking to its neighbor on the right
About the daisy that was drooping and had lost its petals white
It said that it was sure the daisy had a fungal blight
And that it should be quarantined before it spread the plight

The neighbor phlox agreed and said that it was such a shame
That the daisy had been careless and had brought upon its bane
It said that it had heard the daisy had been out at night
With a shady-looking sunflower that was not a pretty sight

The phloxes nodded sagely and continued with their chat
But they did not notice that behind them was a curious cat
The cat had overheard their words and found them very rude
And decided to teach them a lesson that would change their attitude

The cat crept up behind the phloxes and gave them a big shove
The phloxes toppled over and landed in the mud
They were shocked and spluttered as they tried to get back up
But the cat was faster and pounced on them with a thud

The cat then said to them with a grin that showed its teeth
That they should mind their own business and not be so indiscreet
That the daisy was its friend and had nothing wrong with it
And that the sunflower was its lover and they made a perfect fit

The cat then left the phloxes in their muddy, flattened state
And went to join the daisy and the sunflower for a date
The phloxes were humbled and ashamed of what they'd done
And vowed to never gossip again about anyone.
