Kiwi

A kiwi is a small, flightless bird that lives only in New Zealand.
It has a long, flexible beak with nostrils at the end, and soft, hairlike feathers.
It is related to other large, flightless birds like ostriches and emus, but it is much smaller and quieter.
It makes a shrill sound that sounds like "kee-wee".
It is active at night, when it uses its sense of smell to find worms, insects, berries and other food.
It lays very large eggs that are incubated by the male.
The kiwi is a symbol of New Zealand and its people.

It likes wetland vegetation and trees by the river,
And it's adaptable to live almost anywhere, oh so clever!

There are five species of Kiwi, each unique,
The North Island Brown, the Great Spotted, and the Little Spotted, so to speak.
The Rowi and the Tokoeka are the other two,
All of them are threatened, so let's give them their due.
