Where does the Yorgiya live?

Yorgia is an extinct animal that lived about 555 million years ago in the Ediacaran period.
Its fossils have been found in the White Sea region of Russia, where the first specimens were discovered by the paleontologist Ben Waggoner, who gave the name to the genus and species (Yorgia waggoneri).
Yorgia fossils have also been found in the Central Urals of Russia and the Flinders Ranges of Australia.
Yorgia's anatomy and lifestyle are still poorly understood, and its relationship to other animals is unclear.

What does the Yorgiya look like?

Yorgia is an extinct animal that lived in the Ediacaran period, about 555 million years ago.

It had a round, flat body with a short, wide "head" and a long, segmented tail.

The segments, or isomers, were arranged in a pattern of glide reflection, meaning that they were not symmetrical on both sides of the body.

The body was covered with small bumps, or tubercles, and had no appendages.

Yorgia was about 25 cm (9.8 in) long and 20 cm (7.9 in) wide.

It is classified as a proarticulate, a group of early animals that had a unique body plan and are not related to any living animals.

Yorgia fossils have been found in Russia and Australia, mostly as negative imprints on sandstone beds.

Some fossils also show positive imprints, which are interpreted as traces of the animal's movement on the microbial film that covered the seafloor.

These traces, called Epibaion waggoneris, are chains of platforms that end with the imprint of the animal's body.

Yorgia's lifestyle and feeding habits are not well understood.

Some scientists think that it absorbed organic matter from the water through its skin, while others suggest that it had a simple digestive system with a mouth and an intestine.

Some also propose that it had symbiotic algae or bacteria inside its body that provided it with energy.

Yorgia is one of the most mysterious and fascinating creatures of the Ediacaran biota, which represent the dawn of animal life on Earth.
