Porcupine
Where does the Porcupine live?
Porcupines occupy a wide range of habitats in tropical and temperate parts of Asia, Southern Europe, Africa, and North and South America.
They live in forests, deserts, rocky outcrops, and hillsides.
Some New World porcupines live in trees, but Old World porcupines prefer a rocky environment.
Porcupines can be found on rocky areas up to 3,500 metres (11,000 feet) high.
They can also be found living in rock crevices, hollow logs and small caves.
What does the Porcupine look like?
A porcupine is a large rodent with a coat of sharp spines, or quills, that it uses for defense.
There are two main groups of porcupines: the Old World porcupines, which live in Africa, Europe and Asia; and the New World porcupines, which live in the Americas.
The porcupine is a fascinating and unique animal that has adapted well to different environments and threats.
It is one of the largest and longest-living rodents in the world, and it has a rich cultural and symbolic significance in many cultures.
