Where does the Jeholornis live?
Jeholornis was a genus of primitive birds that lived in the early Cretaceous Period, about 122 to 120 million years ago, in China.
They were first discovered in the Jiufotang Formation in Hebei Province, and later also found in the Yixian Formation.
What does the Jeholornis look like?
Jeholornis was a genus of primitive avialans that lived about 120 million years ago in China.
They were among the largest avialans of the early Cretaceous, with a body length of up to 80 cm.
They had a short and high skull with a few small teeth in the lower jaw, and a short and curved lower jaw that may have been adapted for eating seeds.
They had strong and long arms with short fingers, and short legs with a partially reversed first toe.
They had a very long tail with 22 vertebrae, and a second, fan-shaped tail made of 11 feathers above the base of the main tail.
This unique two-tailed structure is not seen in any other avialan.
